On this page you will find the main existing mechanisms and improvement actions to ensure the quality of our Doctoral Program.

First, we present the steps that have endorsed the quality of the degree before it was launched. This is what you will find in the following section:

Improvements implemented as a result of the deployment of the QMS

From the outset, this Doctoral Program requires that, in order to defend the thesis, at least one publication indexed in the Journal of Citation Reports (or an equivalent publication considered valid as a merit for a six-year research evaluation period) must be available at the time of submission.

The Quality Committee of the Doctoral Program has recently approved that, in order to record the JCR publications linked to each thesis, students will be asked to submit, at the time of deposit, this file duly completed. The file also indicates whether the thesis has an industrial or international mention, or if it is a co-supervised thesis, and whether the doctoral candidate has undertaken any mobility other than international, all of which are quality indicators of the thesis that this program encourages students to achieve.

From the moment they are admitted to the program, students are aware of these goals and even of the format of the file to be completed, in order to help them identify important objectives for their thesis.

About the Quality Committee of the Doctoral Program

Internally, the main body responsible for ensuring the quality of the doctoral program is the Doctoral Program Quality Committee. This Committee follows the general guidelines set out in the Regulations of the Quality Committees of the degrees of the Faculty of Statistical Studies, approved by the Faculty Board on February 28, 2013, together with the indications of the Office for Quality and Strategic Development of UCM, as well as the Internal Quality Assurance System (IQAS) of our Doctoral Program. Since the 2019–2020 academic year, an external member has been incorporated into the Quality Committee of our Doctoral Program as a result of the implementation of the IQAS.

The operation of this committee is also governed by the "Standards and Guidelines for Quality Assurance in the European Higher Education Area (EHEA)" developed by the European Association for Quality Assurance in Higher Education (ENQA).

The composition of the Doctoral Quality Committee is established in accordance with the provisions of the IQAS.

The functions assigned to this committee are:

  •

Monitor the Internal Quality Assurance System.

  •

Manage and coordinate all aspects related to this system.

  •

Monitor and evaluate the quality objectives of the corresponding degree.

  •

Make proposals for review and improvement, and monitor their implementation.

  •

Propose and modify the quality objectives of the corresponding degree.

  •

Collect information and evidence on the development and implementation of the training program of the degree (objectives, teaching and learning processes, and others).

  •

    Manage the Degree Information System.

  •

Establish and define the quality policy of the degree in accordance with the quality policy of the Faculty of Statistical Studies and that of UCM.

  •

Report, at the request of its chair, on proposals for internal regulations submitted for consideration by the Faculty Board.

Code of good practices

From the UCM Doctoral School, the creation of a Code of Good Practices has been promoted, which is an important reference for the quality of our doctoral program.
